Disney Channel UK is launching a new nationwide Disney talent search inspired by the film Camp Rock. My Camp Rock will give one solo singer or band the chance to record their own version of a song featured in the original Disney film, and record a music video to accompany it.

Young performers aged between eight and 16 are invited to submit a video of themselves singing either This is Me or We Rock, solo or as part of a group.

From these, eight acts will be selected to attend a four-day workshop where they will receive vocal training from Zoe Tyler, as well as choreography advice from professionals.

A panel of judges will then whittle down these eight acts to four, and viewers will be able to follow their journeys in a weekly Friday night show airing on Disney Channel from early spring.

The finalists will go head to head in a final show on the channel, with viewers deciding on the winner.

Tyler, who has worked as a vocal coach on shows such the BBC’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, said it was a “great honour to be selected” as the show’s vocal coach.

“I can’t wait to see what talent is out there and to help kids’ dreams come true,” she added.

My Camp Rock is open to both group acts and solo artists, who have until February 11, 2009 to submit videos.
